how to not be disappointed on Valentine’s Day (or any other holiday or birthday)

Before approaching any holiday or birthday or anniversary, here’s a word from the wise:

Don’t just wait to be surprised…

Ask for what you want.

Now I know this might be a little shocking as it’s easy to assume that just because you’ve been with a person for years they should know what to do for you or what to get you, but that’s not often the case.

If there’s a way you want to be celebrated or recognized, ask for it. Give your partner the opportunity to show up and be a success in your eyes and theirs.

And ask them for what they want, too. So many people put expectations on their partner to guess what they want and I think it's B.S.

So, your assignment if you choose to accept it, is this -

Initiate a conversation with your partner where you talk about what each of you want. That’s it.

For bonus points, chime in in the comments -

Have you ever been disappointed on Valentine’s Day? Or are you a rockstar requester for what you desire? (orrrrr is your partner psychic?!)

Much love,

Andrea
