Word of the year

At the start of every year, I come up with a word that will be my guiding principle. In 2020, my word of the year was “BIG GIRL PANTIES,” – and boy, did I need that reminder every minute that year!

My word for this year is intentionality: being very thoughtful and intentional about what I focus on, what I say yes and no to, how I speak to others, and even what clothing I wear.

In the fall, I attended my son’s high school’s back-to-school night and I was blown away by how much attention and thoughtfulness is taking place in that school. I could feel the conscious intentionality that was driving each lesson, paper, and discussion.

Then we had dinner over at some dear friends’ house, and again, I saw it, the intentionality that they put into every detail of their home.

So here’s what I’m starting with:

Every morning, I intentionally do three things -

  1. I silently name what I’m grateful for (i.e., the cold spot under my pillow, the first pee of the morning that feels so delightful)

  2. I meditate, even if only for two minutes

  3. I drink celery juice

I’ve found these three things set up my day for success.

And every evening before bed, my husband, kids, and I each name the best part of our day and one kind deed we have done.

It really makes a difference - I can absolutely feel it when these things don’t happen.

So, what’s going to be your word of the year? Feel free to steal mine or adopt any of the examples I shared!

Is this the year to be intentional about your marriage? It will change things. I promise.

Wishing you the best of years to come,
