my divorce story

You just don’t know what someone is going through until you’ve gone through it yourself. Whether it’s the death of a loved one, having a baby, or getting divorced, there’s truly no way to fully understand what it’s like until you experience it yourself. But of course, we can develop more compassion and empathy through listening to others’ experiences.

This week, I wanted to shine some light on divorce and get a little vulnerable with a personal story.

I recently recorded my divorce story on YouTube, that you can watch if you’re interested. Be warned, it’s emotional. I shared it with one of my very best friends who went through the experience with me all those years ago, and this was her text after watching it:

I was deeply touched to receive her thoughtful text, and it made me think about all of us who’ve passed judgment or distanced ourselves from someone going through a divorce.

Hoping my story can create a deeper understanding of just how life-changing it can be, help those who went through it feel less alone, and maybe even remind you of someone in your life you could acknowledge for their difficulties, no matter how long ago they went through it.
