election anxiety? try this…

I was in the car with my teenage daughter today, and she taught me something valuable.

As we drove home from the flower shop, we started talking about the election. I shared my feelings about the anxiety I have regarding it, regardless of the outcome. The hatred, fear, and anger in our nation are so upsetting. The polarization makes my stomach turn, and I worry about the damage it could cause within families, friendships, and neighborhoods.

It’s especially troubling when you have to hide your true feelings from your spouse because of differing political views.

As we were discussing this, she said to me, “Change the names around.”

I looked at her, wondering if she didn’t understand what I was saying or if I didn’t grasp her point. She went on to explain that I should swap out the names of the politicians for something else. Confused, I asked her to elaborate.

HERE'S HER ADVICE

Swap out Kamala’s name for something like “Apple🍏 ” and Trump’s name for “Pear🍐 .”

Now, think about it: Who do you think will win—Apple or Pear?

Or say, “Pear🍐 appointed lots of grapes🍇 to the tennis courts,” or “Apple🍏 is pro-options for avocados🥑 .”

You’ll see how much easier it is on your nervous system!

And you know what? She was right. Give it a try.

Please remember to vote and be kind, especially during the upcoming holidays if political topics come up. Remember, no fruit is worth hating your spouse, your family, your friends, or your neighbors over.

With love and peace,
